![]() I want to transition to a Raw diet...I feel overwhelmed. Any suggestions? I have been doing some research about this for quite some time. I want to reap all the benefits of eating all these fruits, veggies, and the rest that comes with a raw diet. I am so confused, I have no idea where to start...I'm feeling very overwhelmed. I want to drop all my bad eating habits such as junk and meats and all that unhealthy stuff. Does anyone have some helpful tips or sites that you can help me with? I would really appreciate it. If anyone out there is a rawist, can you share with me your personal experience? Is it expensive? How is it with weight loss? How soon do you begin noticing/feeling a change upon starting a raw diet? I don't have a juicer but I do have a blender. Is that ok for making the smoothies? Is there a sample shopping list that I can take with me when shopping for my first week of the raw diet? Thank you so much in advance. There's a great starter book called "The Raw Food Detox Diet" by Natalia Rose. I would definitely recommend picking up this book. It's basic enough, but has a ton a great information. You just have to read it! It also has a bunch of yummy recipes and even a food plan if you're interested in weight loss. It is important that you don't go completely raw right away because chances are you won't stick with it that way. You will want a few appliances. The things I use most is a juicer, blender, food processor, and spiralizer (that makes veggies into pasta type form). I would suggest getting these so that you don't have any boundaries when choosing a recipe. It can be expensive if you're juicing a lot, but otherwise you pretty much save money since you're planning out your meals and after a while you begin to feel satisfied from smaller portions. I've been raw for a few months now, and I've NEVER had this much natural energy. I don't even drink coffee anymore. I have a fresh green juice in the morning and it's live enzymes give me energy to last through the whole day. No more caffeine crash. Raw food is amazing for you life, and body. It's all natural, and you gain so many health benefits from it. You will also lose weight, and you don't have to restrict yourself with portion sizes so much, because it's all natural, whole, and nutrient filled foods. It was the best change I've made in my life. You can google for raw food websites for new recipes once you get started, but I really recommend that book more than anything. She has a very specific food plan that is very different than the usual food and diet books. One more thing, doing the actual detox may be a little bit of a rough experience. Depending on how much junk you eat, or if you've ever detoxed before, you can feel like you have the flu almost. But that's the worst case scenario, and you just have to remember what great things it's doing for your body. You're literally cleaning out your whole system of all the junk and starting fresh. To answer the rest of your questions...I noticed feeling better the day I started (but I had already been through a detox a few month prior using ayruvedic herbs). I would say you'd feel a big difference after a few days of eating all raw. And, no you cannot make juice with a blender. A juicer extracts all juice from the fruit or veggie and leaves behind the fibers of them in a separate container. Look into which juicer would be right for you. You can get a very basic one from target or craigslist for a cheap start. To start you mostly just want to get into the habit of juicing and see how you like it. The nicer juicers can get pricey. There's one I want that juices green leafy veggies, and if that's one you'd like you have to make sure that's what it does. Some only juice firm fruits of veggies. So do some researching on that. Here's some websites I get recipes from often... |

Healthy Smoothie Recipes
There are literally hundreds of different ingredients that can be used to make smoothies in a blender. Listed below are some of my personal favorites. Keep in mind I tend to eat really healthy so if you don’t like the ingredients I use, you can usually substitute them with your own choice. Also my measurements are hit and miss so nothing is ever exact.
Banana Supreme
1 frozen banana
Plain yogurt or Rice milk
Ice
Drop of vanilla
Can add a teaspoon of matcha, protein powder or chai mix if wanted.
This is one of my ultimate favorite summer smoothies that guarantees to be delicious. I personally love to add the powdered chai mix which then makes it a banana chai smoothy which is absolutely delicious.
Matcha Energy Booster Smoothie
Plain yogurt or Rice milk
1 teaspoon of matcha
Ice
Drop of vanilla
Stevia
This smoothy is simply and very easy. It is not sweet at all so I usually add a squirt of liquid stevia to it. You can substitute the stevia for honey or some other type of sweetener if you like. This smoothie is delicious, healthy and truly a real energy booster
Beautiful Blueberry Smoothie
Frozen blueberries
Plain yogurt or Rice milk
Ice
Half a frozen banana
I do love blueberries and they happen to make for a great smoothie (just be sure to pick the remnants out of your teeth after!). The half a banana adds a bit of sweetness to this smoothie and you could also replace it with any other type of fruit if you like.
Fruit Surprise Smoothie
Add all of your left over fruit… from apples, to nectarines, to apricots, to blueberries, to strawberries, to peaches to banana’s.
Plain yogurt or Rice Milk
Ice
The taste of this smoothie will always be a surprise. You never know what you’re going to get when you simply add a lot of everything. Usually it turns out pleasantly good and often very sweet. I have literally made one with practically all of the above ingredients and it was strange looking but delicious none the less.
You can see a theme with all of my smoothies. The ingredients are fairly similar with just a few variations. The smoothies listed above are all healthy and wonderful to taste. Kids and adults will enjoy them and hopefully they will be a big hit on warmer days.
